Traditional Braces for Teens in Weatherford, Texas

Traditional Braces for Teens in Weatherford, Texas

While we serve patients of all ages, Wood Orthodontics most frequently treats teenagers. This is because orthodontic treatments such as traditional braces are ideal for teens. During the teen years, their teeth and mouth go through major growth and change, which makes shaping their smile easier. It may be hard to know if braces are the right choice for you, but our experts are here to help.

There are many different reasons why a patient could benefit from braces. Braces can solve the following oral health issues:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overly crowded teeth
  • Underbites, where the lower teeth stick out further than the upper teeth
  • Overbites, where the upper teeth stick out way further than the lower teeth
  • Openbite, where when biting down fully, the teeth don’t properly touch the other
  • Crossbite, where both the lower and upper arch of teeth are misaligned

Correcting these different natural smile characteristics carries many benefits, one being that your smile’s appearance will be enhanced. Teenagers and adults deserve to have a smile that brings them confidence. Correcting any of the above characteristics also has many health benefits including the following:

  • Clear speech and diction
  • Cavity and decay prevention
  • Sore jaw and chipped teeth prevention

Thanks to the significant growth and change happening in the mouth throughout the teen years, braces treatment can also happen more quickly than it would in adult years.

Traditional (Metal) Braces

Metal braces are the most popular form of orthodontic treatment in the world. In our office, we recommend all teens who require orthodontic care to take advantage of traditional braces and their benefits.

Metal braces consist of different metal orthodontic appliances coming together on the teeth to push or pull the teeth into the correct position. Metal brackets are bonded to each tooth and connected by a metal archwire that pulls and pushes the teeth slowly to eventually bring them into the correct position.

The archwire is attached to the braces using o-rings or small elastic bands that come in many different colors for patients to choose from. To work properly, braces need to be tightened frequently to keep everything in the right place. Traditional braces are the best orthodontic choice for teens because of their ability to move with the growth and change the mouth is experiencing at that time.
